Camera Recommendations

So I get asked often for my recommendations on SLR camera's for a beginner. I decided to post them for all of you! This is the camera and lens that i've gotten or helped many of my family members get to learn photography. ps. if you get a lens and camera like this be sure to take the time to learn how to shoot on manual settings so you can really maximize your photo taking ability!



my recommendation to those new to the slr world is this camera and this lens.
you could go with the rebel, but i think the 40 is way sweeter. and this is defiantly the lens to go with.


the camera
the 40D from canon
this is just a camera body (no lenses or flashes although it does come with a charger and a battery)
this link takes you to a used one from BH photo (i purchase all of my stuff through them). They are amazing and huge and I trust them and their store implicetly. It'll be cheaper to go thru them then a local store.

the lens
a 50mm
this is a small light lens that works really well in low light. it's a very good lens overall and exceptional for new shooters. it's easy to use. doesn't zoom, but trust me, this is the lens to learn how to shoot on an slr. it lets the new shooter focus on learning how to really use the camera without focusing on the features of a fancy or heavy lens.

the filter
when ordering the lens be sure to also purchase the little filter. buy a new one. this is lens insurance. i replace my filters about once a year after they've been scratched. this is a must.

the sun hood
it's an option when you get the lens, it's nice to have, but not imperitive.

the card
i suggest a 1 or 2 gb CF card. I don't shoot on anything larger than that out of personal preference.

That's it. You don't really need a case with such a small camera and lens.
